Statewide Any Crazy Idea for Ohio area riders. How about laying out a perimeter route around Ohio with an approximate time schedule for major points along the way. Riders would get on the route at a point near them and proceed to tour the outermost edge of the state. Riders would join up and depart as they finish their tour. We have all seen "the wave" at sports stadiums. Think of this as WAVE TOUR of OHIO. Make this a camping tour with 2 or 3 campgrounds identified as entrance/exit points along the TOUR. Make it open to all bikes, but since all the roads are secondary highways, the speeds will be relaxing touring mode.
Route 127 from the NW corner along the west side to Cinn
Route 52 from Cinn to Ironton
Route 7 from Ironton at the southern tip all the way to Conneaut in the NE corner
Route 20 from Conneaut to Cleveland
Route 6 and route 2 from Cleveland to Toledo
Route 20 from Toledo to the NW corner Crazy Ken
North Akron I`m from Akron. Best Ohio day ride this year was Rt. 93 South to Zanesville. While there, visit Fink's HD new shop. Pick up Rt. 555 SE to the Ohio River, to Rt. 7 E to Marietta (try lunch or dinner at the Lafayette Hotel - 4 star buffet), then take Rt. 26 E to Rt. 800 N back to Akron/Canton. Trip was approximately 340 miles. This ride had great scenery, curves, hills, valleys, curves and more curves than I've experienced anywhere else in Ohio. Best time to go is in autumn. One thing though, just watch out for deer and gravel in the roadway. Let me know what you think. Lennibur lennibur@aol.com
Akron From Akron/Canton take Rt 224 east to Canfield and then take Rt 11 south to the Ohio River and Rt 7. Take Rt 7 west to Wellsville and hook up with Rt 39 going west. Rt 39 is a good 2 lane paved road full of twisties, rolling hills, beautiful farm land, and rustic old towns. Follow Rt 39 west thru towns like Salineville, Carrollton and the Atwood lake region all the way to Rt 77 and the Dover New Philadelphia area. Continue on Rt 39 west towards Amish country and towns like Sugarcreek, Walnut Creek, Berlin and Millersburg. Once you are in Amish country you will want to stop at one of the Amish kitchens for the best meal of your lifetime. If you have a lady on the pillion, you will want to take some time for her to look around the little Amish shops, as you know the ladies love to shop. Continue following Rt 39 west all the way to the Mohican State Park at Loudonville where you will find canoeing, picnic areas, water slides, golf course and ample room to explore on a bike. From Loudonville, catch Rt 3 going north east and hook up with Rt 30 east and then Rt 77 north back to the Akron/Canton area. This ride is all beautiful Ohio farm country. Allow all day for this ride of approx 250 miles because you will want to take your time and look around. Hope you enjoy !! Denny Gorman...Xsyamahadg...Ride Ohio Mc
Bowling Green Start at I-75 exit 181 and go East on SR 105.
Follow SR 105 along the Portage River thru Pemberville, Woodville, and Elmore.
SR 105 ends in Oak Harbor where it becomes SR 163.
Stay on SR 163 thru Port Clinton and on to Marblehead.
Be sure to visit the lighthouse in Marblehead.
This is a great ride anytime, but is particularly colorful in the Fall. Nick Piazza
Canton/Akron/Alliance From Canton/Akron/Alliance, take Rt 77 south to Rt 30 west and catch Rt 62 going south to Millersburg, just south of Millersburg, take Rt 83 south to Coshocton and Roscoe Village. Roscoe village is an old Erie Canal town that has been restored to it's original condition when it was at it's peak as an Erie Canal town in the 1800's. Once at Roscoe, you will find a clean neat little town set apart form the rest of the world which caters to the tourist trade. Roscoe offers Restaurants, Captain Nye's sweet shop, a working blacksmith shop, horse drawn canal boat rides, a canal boat in dry dock on display, a canoe livery, clean restrooms, and many, many little shops to browse. You can park your bike on White Woman street and walk to every place you want to visit in Roscoe. If you need to earn points with your lady co-pilot, this is your chance. A big plus for this destination is the ride on the way to Roscoe, you will ride thru Amish country in Holmes County which is some of the most beautiful country in Ohio. The roads are perfect for motorcycle riding, just watch out for road apples. The quick way home would be to take Rt 36 east to Rt 77 north and home to the Canton/Akron/Alliance area. Allow all day for this approx 180 mile round trip because there is a lot to see, and many good places to visit. Ride Ohio and enjoy !!! Denny Gorman...Xsyamahadg...Ride Ohio Mc
Defiance From Defiance take 424 Northeast through Independence and Flordia (Ohio) to Napoleon. This is a nice scenic ride following the Maumee River. In Napoleon take 108 across the bridge. As soon as you cross the bridge turn left and follow 110 along the other side of the Maumee River. 110 will turn into 65. Take 65 all the way to Waterville (still following along the Maumee River). At Waterville pick up 64 North. 64 will go through Waterville and Whitehouse and will then dead end into State Route 2. Turn left on State Route 2. You will take State Route 2 through Swanton, Delta, Wauseon, Archbold, Stryker, Bryan, Williams Center, Farmer and then into Hicksville. Once you get to Wauseon State Route 2 is all rural or small towns (very nice ride). From Hicksville pick up 18 and head back to Defiance going through Sherwood. Almost every town on this route has gas stations, ice cream and restaurants. For a nice sit down meal try the restaurant in Swanton with the big sail boat on top of it. I can't think of the name of it but you can't miss the big sailboat. They have steak and a variety of seafood. There are a lot of fast food places on the route going through Wauseon. There are two good Ice Cream places on the route toward the end. One in Hicksville and one in Sherwood. Depending on your speed and how much you stop to enjoy things the whole route takes about 5 hours. Linc Geissinger
Perrysburg My favorite ride here in NW Ohio is to leave Perrysburg, OH, on state route 65 along the southern bank of the Maumee River through Grand Rapids. A few miles out of Grand Rapids, you catch SR 110 into Napoleon. Take SR 424 from Napoleon to Defiance. This is an especially attractive route during the fall when the leaves along the Maumee River are in full color. Nick J. Piazza, PhD
Toledo A favorite ride from the Toledo area! Catch route 51 from Toledo- it will take you through Northwood then into Genoa. Upon reaching Genoa, you will begin your country ride. You will then approach Elmore, take route 105 east for farm scenery and a peaceful country ride with next to nothing as far as traffic. After a nice cruise you will then approach Oak Harbor, time to stop for gas and maybe an ice cream cone on a hot day. This is also where you catch route 163, which will take you to Port Clinton for a great ride along Lake Erie. Stay on route 163 till you reach Marblehead (the end of the route), if you look across Lake Erie you can see Cedar Point. There is also an old lighthouse you can visit and a few shops in town that may be of interest to art collectors or glass collectors. Each town mentioned has places to eat and stops for gas. One way this ride is about 50 miles. Have a great ride!!!!! Annette Pepple
South New Richmond Nice Group Ride Here's a nice 90+ mile loop ride from New Richmond, with a layover in Kentucky. Lots of nice twists and turns with some excellent river views. We used this one for a rally. Plan a nice long afternoon! Download Long Route
If 90 miles is a bit much, here's a 50 mile ride you might enjoy: Download Short Route DonB, OhioBikers.com DonB@OhioBikers.com
East Marietta One of the best rides I've had is Rt. 26 between Marietta, OH and Woodsfield, OH. Better get gas either in Woodsfield or Marietta because there isn't much in between. Traffic is light. It's only about 1 1/2 hours but it goes through Wayne National Forest and has some beautiful scenery. The route follows the Little Muskingum River for part of the way. There are some beautiful reflections off the water of the surrounding trees. So you have the water on one side of the road and rock walls with ferns and greenery on the other, but don't look too long, there's a curve ahead just around the bend. Seriously, you are hardly out of sight of a yellow squiggly arrow sign. Take your time around the sweeping curves and slow down for the tight bends and you'll have an exhilarating ride. West Vaughnsville State Route 12 from Vaughnsville (5 miles north of Lima) to Findlay (Interstate 75). About 30 miles. Ride right throught the center of a cemetery at 55 mph. Pass through several quaint small towns (Columbus Grove, Pandora, Benton Ridge). Open, rural, several nice sweeping turns. Approx. 30 miles. R.E. Whitlatch
Central Columbus These folks were kind enough to allow me to direct you to their website. Most of the rides are based on starting points in the Columbus area (makes sense!). I looked them over and know several of them well. It is well written, includes all types and times of rides. We HIGHLY recommend looking it over. Check out their WEBSITE. A class act! My personal thanks to Jack for letting me add the link. Chuck Dyer, State Officer, Ohio Cruisers Riding Club
